Installing the Phone
Installing the Handset Battery

NOTE: You must connect the handset battery before use.

CAUTION: To reduce the risk of fire or personal injury, use only 

the Thomson Inc. approved Nickel-metal Hydride battery (Ni-MH) 

model 5-2522 that is compatible with this unit.

1. Gatherthebattery,thehandset,thehandsetbackandthetwohandsetringswhich

arepackagedinthebox.

2. Locatethebatterycompartmentonthebackofthehandset.
3. Plugthebatterypackcordintothejackinsidethecompartment.

NOTE: To ensure proper battery installation, the connector is keyed 

and can be inserted only one way.

Base Station
1. Chooseanareanearanelectricaloutletandatelephonewalljack(RJ11C),and

placeyourcordlesstelephoneonalevelsurface,suchasadesktoportabletop,or

youmaymountitonthewall.

2. PlugoneendofthetelephonelinecordintotheTELLINEjackonthebottomofthe

baseandtheotherendintoamodularjack.

3. PlugtheACpowerconverterintotheelectricaloutletandtheDCconnectorintothe

jackonthebottomofthebase.

4. Settheringerswitch(onthehandset)toON,andplacethehandsetinthecradleon

thebase.

5. Thecharge/inuseindicatorturnson,verifyingthebatteryischarging.Theunitwill

take20secondstoregisterandverifyitssecuritycode.

6. Allowthephonetochargefor16hourspriortofirstuse.Ifyoudon’tproperlycharge

thephone,batteryperformanceiscompromised.

CAUTION: Use only the 5-2616 (black) or 5-2617 (gray) power 

adapter that came with this unit. Using other power adapters 

may damage the unit.

Date and Real Time Clock Setting
1. PressandholdtheSelbuttonuntilthehourdigitsisflashing.
2. PressandholdtheAdjbuttontoadvancehoursettingincrement.
3. Whenthecorrecthourisset,presstheSelbuttontoconfirmandtheminutedigitwill

flash.

4. PressandholdtheAdjbuttontoadvancetheminutesettingincrement.
5. Whenthecorrectminuteisset,presstheSelbuttontoconfirmandtheMonth

characterswillflash.

5. PressandholdtheAdjbuttontoselectthemonth.
6. WhenthecorrectMonthisset,presstheSelbuttontoconfirmandthedatedigitwill

flash.

7. PressandholdtheAdjbuttontoadvancethedatesettingincrement.
8. Whenthecorrectdateisset,presstheSelbuttontoconfirmandtheunitwillreturn

tostandbydisplay.

Handset Setup
Therearefiveprogrammablemenusavailable:Language,LocalAreaCode,Ringer

Tone,Tone/PulseandFactoryDefault.Whenyouprogramthesesettings,makesurethe

phoneis

OFF(notintalkmode).Pressingthe*tone/exitbuttonwil removeyoufromthe

menuselectionprocesswithoutchangingthefeatureyouarein.
Display Language
1. Presstheflash/menubuttonuntil

1ENG 2FRA 3ESPshowsinthedisplay.

2. Usethevol/cid(-or+)buttonorthehandsetnumberpadtoselect1(English),2

(French),or3(Spanish).Thedefaultsettingis 1ENG.

3. Presstheflash/menubuttontoconfirmandtoadvancetothenextmenufeature.
Local Area Code
Ifyouenteryourlocal3-digitareacodeintheareacodemenu,yourlocalareacode

doesnotdisplayontheCallerID(CID)list.Instead,youonlyseethelocal7-digitnumber.

Callsreceivedfromoutsideyourlocalareacodewilldisplaythefull10-digitnumber.

Ringer Tone
1. Presstheflash/menubuttonuntil

RINGER TONEshowsinthedisplay.

2. Usethevol/cid(-or+)buttonorthehandsetnumberpad(1-3)toenteryour

selectionfromRingerTone1,2,or3.ThedefaultsettingisRINGER TONE 1.

3. Presstheflash/menubuttontoconfirmandtoadvancetothenextmenufeature.

4. Insertthebatterypack.
5. Snapthebackofthehandsettothehandsetandscrewtheringsontobothends.

NOTE:The handset back is asymmetrical in structure and can ONLY 

be installed in one orientation.

Introduction

CAUTION: When using telephone equipment, there are basic 

safety instructions that should always be followed. Refer to the 

IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS provided with this product 

and save them for future reference.

IMPORTANT: Because cordless phones operate on electricity, you 

should have at least one phone in your home that isn’t cordless, in 

case the power in your home goes out.

Digital Security System
Yourcordlessphoneusesadigitalsecuritysystemtoprotectagainstfalseringing,

unauthorizedaccess,andchargestoyourphoneline.

INSTALLATION NOTE: Some cordless telephones operate at 

frequencies that may cause or receive interference with nearby 

TVs, microwave ovens, and VCRs. To minimize or prevent such 

interference, the base of the cordless telephone should not be 

placed near or on top of a TV, microwave ovens, or VCR. If such 

interference continues, move the cordless telephone farther away 

from these appliances.
Certain other communications devices may also use the 2.4 GHz 

frequency for communication, and, if not properly set, these 

devices may interfere with each other and/or your new telephone. 

If you are concerned with interference, please refer to the owner’s 

manual for these devices on how to properly set channels to avoid 

interference. Typical devices that may use the 2.4 GHz frequency 

for communication include wireless audio/video senders, wireless 

computer networks, multi-handset cordless telephone systems, and 

some long-range cordless telephone systems.

Important Installation Guidelines

• Avoidsourcesofnoiseandheat,suchasmotors,fluorescentlighting,microwave

ovens,heatingappliancesanddirectsunlight.

• Avoidareasofexcessivedust,moistureandlowtemperature.
• Avoidothercordlesstelephonesorpersonalcomputers.
• Neverinstalltelephonewiringduringalightningstorm.
• Neverinstalltelephonejacksinwetlocationsunlessthejackisspecifically

designedforwetlocations.

• Nevertouchnon-insulatedtelephonewiresorterminals,unlessthetelephoneline

hasbeendisconnectedatthenetworkinterface.

• Usecautionwheninstallingormodifyingtelephonelines.

Equipment Approval Information
YourtelephoneequipmentisapprovedforconnectiontothePublicSwitchedTelephoneNetwork

andisincompliancewithparts15and68,FCCRulesandRegulationsandtheTechnical

RequirementsforTelephoneTerminalEquipmentpublishedbyACTA.
1  Notification to the Local Telephone Company
Onthebottomofthisequipmentisalabelindicating,amongotherinformation,theUSnumber

andRingerEquivalenceNumber(REN)fortheequipment.Youmust,uponrequest,providethis

informationtoyourtelephonecompany.
TheRENisusefulindeterminingthenumberofdevicesyoumayconnecttoyourtelephoneline

andstillhaveallofthesedevicesringwhenyourtelephonenumberiscalled.Inmost(butnotall)

areas,thesumoftheRENsofalldevicesconnectedtoonelineshouldnotexceed5.Tobecertain

ofthenumberofdevicesyoumayconnecttoyourlineasdeterminedbytheREN,youshould

contactyourlocaltelephonecompany.
Aplugandjackusedtoconnectthisequipmenttothepremiseswiringandtelephonenetwork

mustcomplywiththeapplicableFCCPart68rulesandrequirementsadoptedbytheACTA.A

complianttelephonecordandmodularplugisprovidedwiththisproduct.Itisdesignedtobe

connectedtoacompatiblemodularjackthatisalsocompliant.Seeinstallationinstructionsfor

details.

•Thisequipmentmaynotbeusedoncoinserviceprovidedbythetelephonecompany.
•Partylinesaresubjecttostatetariffs,andtherefore,youmaynotbeabletouseyourown

telephoneequipmentifyouareonapartyline.Checkwithyourlocaltelephonecompany.

•Noticemustbegiventothetelephonecompanyuponpermanentdisconnectionofyour

telephonefromyourline.

•Ifyourhomehasspeciallywiredalarmequipmentconnectedtothetelephoneline,ensure

theinstallationofthisproductdoesnotdisableyouralarmequipment.Ifyouhavequestions

aboutwhatwilldisablealarmequipment,consultyourtelephonecompanyoraqualified

installer.

Tone/Pulse
Thisunitallowsusertofromtoneorpulsedialing.

Cordless Phone Basics
Making a Call
1. Pressthetalkbuttonanddialthedesirednumber.

 Toperformpreviewdial,dialthenumberfirstthenpressthetalkbutton.
2. Tohangup,pressthetalkbuttonorplacethehandsetinthecradle.
Receiving a Call
1. Toansweracallpressthetalkbuttononthehandsetbeforeyoubeginspeaking.
2. Tohangup,pressthetalkbuttonorplacethehandsetinthecradle.
Redial
Presstheredialbuttontoquicklydialthelastnumberyoucalled(upto32digits).
Ifyougetabusysignal,andwanttokeepdialingthenumber,pressredialtodialthe

numberagain.
In Use Indicator
Whenthecharge/inuseindicatoronthebaseislit,thehandsetiseitherinuseor

charging.Thecharge/inuseindicatoronthebaseflasheswhenyouhavevoicemail.

Theindicatorflashesincadencewhenreceivinganincomingcall.
Flash
IfyousubscribetothecombinedCallWaitingCallerIDservicefromyourlocal

telephonecompanyyouwillreceiveCallerIDinformation(ifavailable)onCallWaiting

calls.Duringaphonecall,youwillhearabeeptoindicateanothercalliswaitingon

thelineandCallerIDinformationforthewaitingcallshowsonthehandsetdisplay.To

connectthewaitingcall,presstheflash/menubuttononthehandsetandyouroriginal

callisputonhold.Youmayswitchbackandforthbetweenthetwocallsbypressing

theflash/menubutton.

TIP: Do not use the talk button to activate custom calling services 

such as call waiting, or you’ll hang up the phone. 

Call Timer
AfteryoupresstheTALK/callbackbuttononthehandset,thebuilt-incalltimershows

onthedisplayandcountsthelengthoftimeofthecallinminutesandseconds.
Volume
Whenthephoneis

ON,pressthevol/cid(-or+)onthehandsettoadjustthevolumeof

thehandset’searpiece.Therearefoursettings.Pressthevol/cid+buttontoincrease

thevolumeandvol/cid-buttontodecreasethevolume.Youwillseethevolumesetting

onthehandsetdisplay.VOL4isthemaximumandVOL1istheminimum.
Channel Button
Whiletalkingonthephone,youmightneedtomanuallychangethechannelinorder

toreducestaticcausedbyappliances,suchasbabymonitors,garagedooropeners,

microwaveovens,orothercordlessphones.Pressandreleasethechan/deletebutton

tomovetothenextclearchannel.Thereare40channelsavailable.

Temporary Tone
Thisfeatureisusefulonlyifyouhavepulse(rotary)service.TemporaryToneDialing

enablespulse(rotary)servicephoneuserstoaccesstouchtoneservicesofferedby

banks,creditcardcompanies,etc.Forexample,whenyoucallyourbankyoumayneed

toenteryourbankaccountnumber.Temporarilyswitchingtotouchtonemodeallows

youtosendyournumber.
1. Dialthetelephonenumberandwaitforthelinetoconnect.
2. Whenyourcallisanswered,pressthe*tone/exitbuttononthehandsetto

temporarilychangefrompulsedialingtotonedialing.

3. Followtheautomatedinstructionstogettheinformationyouneed.
4. Hangupthehandsetandthephoneautomaticallyreturnstopulse(rotary)dialing

mode.

Exit
Pressthe*tone/exitbuttontocancelanycommandyouinitiated.
Ringer On/Off 
1. Pressringerbuttontoentertheringeron/offsettingmenuandcurrentsettingwill

showindisplay.

2. Pressringerbuttonagaintoselectthesettingandyouwillheartheconfirmation

tone.

NOTE: If you turn the ringer OFF, RINGER OFF shows in the display. 

Paging the Handset
Thisfeaturehelpstolocateamisplacedhandset.
Pressthepagebuttononthebase.Thehandsetwillbeepforabouttwominutesoruntil

youpresstalkonthehandsetorpressthepagebuttononthebase.

NOTE: You can still page the handset if the ringer is turned off. If the 

battery is dead, the Paging feature will not work.

Caller ID (CID)

IMPORTANT: In order to use this unit’s Caller ID features, you must 

subscribe to either the standard Name/Number Caller ID Service or 

Call Waiting Caller ID Service. To know who is calling while you are 

on the phone, you must subscribe to Call Waiting Caller ID Service.

Thisunitreceivesanddisplaysinformationtransmittedbyyourlocalphonecompany.

Thisinformationcanincludethephonenumber,date,andtime;orthename,phone

number,date,andtime.

Shouldyourequipmentcausetroubleonyourlinewhichmayharmthetelephonenetwork,

thetelephonecompanyshall,wherepracticable,notifyyouthattemporarydiscontinuanceof

servicemayberequired.Wherepriornoticeisnotpracticableandthecircumstanceswarrant

suchaction,thetelephonecompanymaytemporarilydiscontinueserviceimmediately.Incase

ofsuchtemporarydiscontinuance,thetelephonecompanymust:(1)promptlynotifyyouofsuch

temporarydiscontinuance;(2)affordyoutheopportunitytocorrectthesituation;and(3)inform

youofyourrighttobringacomplainttotheCommissionpursuanttoproceduressetforthin

SubpartEofPart68,FCCRulesandRegulations.
Thetelephonecompanymaymakechangesinitscommunicationsfacilities,equipment,

operationsorprocedureswheresuchactionisrequiredintheoperationofitsbusinessandnot

inconsistentwithFCCRulesandRegulations.Ifthesechangesareexpectedtoaffecttheuseor

performanceofyourtelephoneequipment,thetelephonecompanymustgiveyouadequate

notice,inwriting,toallowyoutomaintainuninterruptedservice.
Interference Information
ThisdevicecomplieswithPart15oftheFCCRules.Operationissubjecttothefollowingtwo

conditions:(1)Thisdevicemaynotcauseharmfulinterference;and(2)Thisdevicemustacceptany

interferencereceived,includinginterferencethatmaycauseundesiredoperation.
